Our Mission

Christians for Impact helps Christians to have a maximum impact on the world’s most pressing pressing problems. Our approach is guided by the principles of effective altruism and grounded in our Christian faith.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Community Builder (with a focus on U.S. Partnerships) to join our team and advance CFI’s mission across the United States.

This role is full-time (40 hours/week) and remote (U.S.-based), with preference for candidates located near San Francisco, Washington D.C., or Boston (New York City is also considered).

The Community Builder will report to JD Bauman (Director) and collaborate closely with CFI’s global team. The position involves frequent travel (est. 20-50% of the time), to engage with communities and partners across the U.S.

  • Job Type: Full-time (flexible, 40 hours per week; 30 hours possible)

  • Start Date: July 10, 2025

  • Location: Remote (U.S.-based). Preferred bases: San Francisco, Washington, D.C., or Boston (NYC considered).

  • Reports To: JD Bauman (Director)

Why This Role

CFI’s brand and following has grown substantially since the launch of our website in 2023.

Our most recent event drew 160 attendees and renowned speakers including the Archbishop of Canterbury. We think there is latent demand for additional events, outreach opportunities, and 1-on-1 discussions about our core ideas, but we are currently constrained by our small team size.

We think an additional staff member could support this and contribute toward impacts that we care about.

Key Responsibilities

  • Speaking Engagements:

Plan and deliver approximately 2 talks or workshops per month at churches, youth groups, universities, and Christian conferences.

We have prepared talks that you can adapt for these purposes. These presentations will focus on topics like pursuing impactful careers (e.g. this workshop), effective charitable giving, motivating audiences to integrate effective altruism principles with their faith.

  • Partnership Building:

Develop and maintain a pipeline of partner organizations (churches, ministries, nonprofits, campus groups, etc.).

Initiate outreach calls with key stakeholders and conduct persistent follow-ups over several months to establish strong, long-term collaborations that further CFI’s mission.

  • 1-on-1 Community Engagement:

Conduct around 30 1-on-1 conversations each month with individuals in our core audience (about 2/3 with new contacts and 1/3 with existing members) and updating our CRM. Through these personal chats, encourage Christians to take concrete action—such as pledging 10% of their income to effective charities or applying for CFI career advising.

  • Team Collaboration:

Actively participate in the CFI team. Join weekly team-building calls, share updates, and coordinate efforts with colleagues.

The best candidates have:

  • Alignment with Mission: A deep commitment to CFI’s mission and values. The candidate identifies as a Christian and strongly agrees with the core ideas behind effective altruism.

  • Knowledge of core concepts: Can speak with ease about CFI’s perspective on career advising, our key concepts, and unique approach to career advising and calling. Is familiar with our top recommendations by cause area.

  • Public Speaking Skills: Proven experience in public speaking or teaching, with the ability to confidently present in faith-based settings (church congregations, Christian student groups, etc.) and engage audiences on career and charity topics.

  • Project Management: Capable of independently managing outreach campaigns and events from start to finish, and consistently following through on tasks and deadlines.

  • Independence & Conscientiousness: Highly self-motivated and conscientious, able to work independently while maintaining regular communication with JD. Comfortable with twice weekly check-ins with a manager to report progress.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Friendly, extroverted, and socially agile. Able to build rapport quickly and navigate conversations with a wide range of people — from church leaders and students to professionals in our core audience: highly educated, social impact-motivated Christians aged 18-30.

  • Sound Judgment: Judicious decision-making under uncertainty. Able to make wise, principled decisions when faced with ambiguous situations, aligning actions with CFI’s values.

  • Enterprising Mindset: Resourceful and proactive, especially in a small-team environment. Takes initiative to seize opportunities, solve problems creatively, and “wear many hats” as needed in a growing organization.

  • Ecumenicalism: Ability to main professionalism in a wide range of Christian environments, in contexts ranging from conservative evangelical to catholic to progressive mainline.

  • Credibility in Christian Contexts: Has the experience and character to earn respect among leaders and members of our core audiences. (For example, you can engage knowledgably with theology-minded individuals and demonstrate humility and integrity in ministry contexts.)

  • Community-Building Experience: Prior experience in community building, outreach coordination, or organizing talks/events – especially in Christian contexts.

  • Driver’s License: preferred.

    Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $60,000 annual salary for candidates based near San Francisco, Washington D.C., or Boston. For candidates in other U.S. locations, salary is $40,000–$45,000. (Compensation is adjusted based on local cost-of-living and experience.)

  • Travel Covered: All required travel expenses (flights, lodging, transportation) for work engagements are fully covered by CFI.

  • Work Schedule: ~40 hours per week (full-time), with flexibility to reduce to 30 hours/week depending on candidate needs or scheduling. Some weeks will require travel or event attendance during evenings/weekends (adjusted with lighter hours at other times).

  • Holidays & Vacation: Paid time off includes all federal/bank holidays and 10 paid vacation days per year.

  • Additional Leave: Up to 4 weeks of unpaid leave annually, if needed, to accommodate personal development, missions trips, or other personal commitments (to be arranged with advanced notice).

Perks of Working with CFI

  • Mission-Driven Impact: Join an early-stage charity poised for significant long-term impact.

  • Collaborative Team: Work with a small but motivated, talented, faith-driven team who love their work.

  • Networking & Leadership: Collaborate closely with senior church leaders, impactful nonprofits, and effective altruist organizations.
